To mark the 27th No Smoking Day, local MP Tom Brake is backing an Early Day Motion supporting the work of the charity which organises the day.

The Liberal Democrats have unveiled plans to revitalise Britain's high streets by creating a better business environment for small businesses.

Local MP Tom Brake is calling on his fellow MPs of all political colours to show their support for International Women's Day by signing an Early Day Motion (EDM) 214.

Tom Brake, MP for Carshalton and Wallington, gave his full support to National Apprenticeship Week at Carshalton College by shadowing hairdressing students at work on Friday 5th February. Apprenticeship schemes blend work and study to offer young people the chance to become qualified in their career of choice, with four days a week in the workplace and one day a week in College.

Commenting on the news that the business case for Better Healthcare Closer to Home, which will see St Helier Hospital partially re-built, has finally been passed over to the Treasury, Tom Brake MP for Carshalton and Wallington said, 'This is great news for patients. We have taken one further step towards securing a hospital fit for the 21st century. The spotlight now shifts to the Treasury to approve the funding and the Better Healthcare Closer to Home project team to revise the plans to satisfy the requirements of the London Plan.'

Tom Brake MP for Carshalton and Wallington is supporting Fuel Poverty Awareness Day 2010, a national campaign which aims to highlight the effects of living in a cold home on people's health.

MP for Carshalton and Wallington Tom Brake questioned the Government again last Tuesday over the funding for the Better Healthcare Closer to Home project.

Tom made the pledge on The Royal British Legion's campaign website, www.timetodoyourbit.org.uk.
