Sutton Liberal Democrats welcome grand opening of £1.4m Circle Library6.15.00am GMT Wed 24th Mar 2010
On 19th March the state of the art £1.4m Circle Library opens its doors to the public for the first time. Local residents will benefit from an IT centre, readers' lounge, courtyard garden and meeting spaces, as well as an array of environmentally friendly features such as rainwater harvesting, a ground source heat pump and an intelligent ventilation and heat retention system. The library, funded by the Big Lottery Fund and designed after lengthy consultation with residents, will be one of the greenest in London. Cllr Graham Tope, Executive Member for Leisure and Libraries on Sutton Council, said: " I am pleased we are able to continue Sutton's tradition of investing in our libraries. "With an IT suite and indoor and outdoor space for the community to use, this is much more than a library; it is a social and educational space with something for everyone. "The sustainable technology also means it will have little impact on the environment and we know this matters to our residents. It's a great example of how we can lower carbon emissions from council buildings in line with One Planet Living ambitions."
