Stan was first elected as councillor for Wallington South in 1994 and continued to represent that ward until 2002 when he stood down. Stan was again elected as councillor in 2010, this time for Wallington North. Stan has represented his ward residents on many issues since first elected in 1994 when as a a 'raw' councillor he and his colleagues successfully argued against a proposal by Macdonalds to develop a drive-in restaurant at the junction of Woodcote Road and Stafford Road, Wallington.

Stan had the honour of representing the borough as Mayor for the year 1996/1997.
