Councillor David Callaghan was elected to serve on Sutton Council in 2006. It was the first time the Liberal Democrats had been successful in St Helier ward.
Since being elected in St Helier, David has worked hard to ensure the area is improved for residents, and helped to establish a new traders association at Rosehill.
He is now a member of the council's Executive with responsibility for children, families and youth services.
David has lived in Sutton for 15 years, having moved from Southampton. He is a journalist who freelances, but previously worked for several public sector magazines and websites including Guardian Unlimited.
He stood for parliament in the Southampton Test constituency at the last general election, helping to maintain the Lib Dem position against an increased Tory vote.
