Co-op to Address Lorry Disruption

April 3, 2012 4:47 PM

.

Senior management at the Co-operative have pledged to cooperate with local residents in managing delivery lorries parking around their outlet in Carshalton Beeches

.

Brake and Fosdike outside Co-opIt comes after Tom Brake MP and local councillor Peter Fosdike arranged a meeting with regional managers to discuss a series of complaints from local residents about delivery arrangements at Banstead Road South store.

Tom Brake, local MP for Carshalton and Wallington commented, "While I appreciate that businesses need deliveries in order to provide their service to customers, it is unacceptable if these deliveries disrupt the lives of local residents on a daily basis. I am glad that Co-op management have recognised the seriousness of the situation and have come to the store personally. I hope that this will result in some relief for residents".

Liberal Democrat Councillor Peter Fosdike said, "After threats of a picket and constant pressure from residents, myself and Tom Brake, Co-Op top management have agreed a workable solution which should ease conditions for residents, bus passengers, local shop owners and shoppers."

There have been numerous instances of lorries getting stuck and residents' cars being damaged during deliveries to the store. Co-op have now agreed to use smaller lorries and to ensure that parking bays are not blocked by delivery cages.
