Cllr Mary Burstow reports:

Residents of Cheam will celebrate the 753rd annual Charter Fair on Saturday 19 May 2012 between 09:30 and 13:00. A series of events are also planned for the period between the traditional Fair day of 15 May and the main event on the 19 May.
The fair is thought to date back to 1259 when Henry III granted Cheam a charter making it a town.
A parade will be held from St Dunstan's Church to Park Road to open a market of stalls relating to local charities, societies and businesses.
The fair is steeped in custom, with traders traditionally marking out their stalls with chalk the night before.
Firm historical records of Cheam Charter Fair date back to the 1800s when a fairground accompanied the market.
This year the Fair is, by coincidence, being held on the Feast Day of St Dunstan, the Patron of Cheam's Parish Church, and will be closely followed by the 50th Anniversary of the opening of Cheam Library, the Diamond Jubilee of The Queen's reign and the London Olympics - lots of reasons to celebrate!
