Young people can make a difference

January 30, 2012 10:33 AM
By Tom Brake MP

Tom BrakeI am calling on the young people of Carshalton and Wallington to get involved in Starbucks Youth Action - the initiative that empowers young people to make a difference in their community.

Starbucks Youth Action, open for all 16-24 year olds, gets local young people to identify what needs to change in their town or city and develop a project to bring that change about.

As well as providing funding and volunteer support for the project, Starbucks Youth Action also offers training to young people on project management, how to manage a budget and how to work with volunteers.

In 2012 a total of £100,000 worth of investment across the ten participating cities will be available, including £10,000 seed funding for Greater London.

Previous funding has been awarded to a wide variety of schemes - from photography exhibitions in London to building better access to popular community areas in Leeds.

It is so important for young people to be active and influential in the community they live in. This is a unique programme that will give young people the opportunity to bring about the change that they think is necessary.

All applications must be in by 5th March. For more information, and to download an application form, visit: http://starbucks.co.uk/responsibility/community/youth-action

Tom Brake is the Liberal Democrat MP for Carshalton and Wallington.
