Athletes aged 11 to 17 will be selected to represent Sutton in the young people's event which takes place on the final stretch of the London Marathon route in central London.
To compete in the five kilometre race from Blackfriars to Pall Mall against all 32 other London Boroughs, runners need to qualify in the local trials on 25 February.
Anyone within the age range who lives or goes to school in Sutton can take part for free but must pre-register for the trials before 17 February. The trials start at 11.30am at the Roundshaw 'Park Run' Roundshaw Downs, off Purley Way.
Cllr Dave Callaghan, Executive Member for Children, Families and Youth Services on Sutton Council, said: "With the Olympics coming to our home city, there has never been a better year to get more involved with sports. The mini-marathon gives young runners the chance to take part in one of the capital's most iconic sporting events, and raise money to give something back at the same time."
The first five runners to reach the finish in each age range at the trials will make the team for the Virgin Mini Marathon on 22 April. Selected runners can then raise sponsorship money for Great Ormond Street Hospital, 'Ready' a local charity which raises funds to help young people with disabilities to take part in sport and recreation, or a charity of their choice.
