Sutton's Liberal Democrat Leaders today agreed that building work can now start on the new Stanley Park High School which will enable the new school to open
This follows the recent submission of a planning application from the Benhill Gospel Trust for a gospel hall and care home on land adjacent to the site.
Cllr Kirsty Jerome, Executive Member for Education and Schools, said: "After much hard work between our partners and discussions with the Benhill Gospel Trust I am delighted we are finally able to get going on building the new school.
"The current pupils have been looking forward to this day for many months so that they and future pupils will have exceptional teaching facilities in a state of the art building. The new school will also mean an increase in places of 350 and provide a further 91 places for children with autistic spectrum disorders.
"We still need the access road to be built but we are confident that will eventually be possible and so can now get started with the other work."
