Formally appointed to the Executive at last night's Annual Council meeting, Sutton's leading Liberal Democrat councillors have committed to going out across the borough to speak directly residents to hear their views and listen to local concerns.
As part of the Liberal Democrats' manifesto commitment to work with local people and involve them more in the decisions that are made by the Council, members of the Council's Executive will be looking to visit areas across the borough to hear directly from members of the public.
The commitment comes after a successful trial run when councillors visited Sutton High Street to get people's views on the authority's budget and the priorities for their local area.
Leader of the Council, Cllr Sean Brennan said:
"In the recent council election Liberal Democrats in Sutton campaigned by listening to our residents and acting on their concerns. Over the next four years we are committed to working with residents to ensure we provide quality services that represent value for money.
"We want to involve more people in how the council makes decisions and hear directly from them about their concerns and issues.
"We don't want people to think we've stopped listening just because we've had the election. Instead we want them to know that their views are now even more important."
People are also being invited to contact their local councillors, attend local committee meetings in their area and meetings of the council itself so they can ensure what they have to say is heard and acted upon.
The new Executive was formally appointed at last night's Annual Council meeting, which saw Cllr Sean Brennan re-elected as Council Leader and Cllr Ruth Dombey as Deputy Leader.
The meeting also elected Cllrs Dave Callaghan, Kirsty Jerome, Jayne McCoy and Simon Wales to the Executive for the first time to join continuing Executive Members, Cllrs Colin Stears, Graham Tope, Colin Hall, and John Drage.
"Having new people on the team will be invaluable in bringing fresh ideas and a range of experience and skills. Together the Executive has the commitment and expertise to serve the people of Sutton in the best way possible," added Cllr Brennan.
The new Leader of the Conservative Opposition is Councillor Graham Whitham, with Cllr Tim Crowley elected as the Opposition's Deputy Leader.
