Over 27,000 elderly residents have renewed their Freedom Passes as Sutton council arranged for the installation of new photo booths in civic buildings and provided extra staff to cope with the number of applications.
Residents were able to renew their passes in libraries, one-stop-shops and the civic centre.
Sutton was one of only three boroughs in London given permission to renew passes in house, saving money and time.
Information from previous renewals allowed the council to target specific areas with additional staff. Renewal forms were also sent out in advance, minimising queues.
Cllr Colin Hall, Executive Member for Environment on Sutton Council, said: "We know Freedom Passes are an important part of many of our elderly resident's lives and I am delighted that the council's efforts have meant so many people have been able to renew their passes, so quickly and easily.
"We know residents really appreciate the ability to get out and about so easily with the freedom pass and Sutton Liberal Democrats will continue our campaign to ensure that Sutton residents are not punished by Government changing what funding it gives to the scheme in London.."
