Almost nine in ten people in Sutton are satisfied with their local area as a place to live, following a survey of local residents by polling experts Ipsos MORI.
Results from the latest residents' survey, carried out every two years, also reveal that 72% of people are satisfied with how Sutton Council runs things, up from 69% in 2007. The proportion of people who feel they can influence council-run services is also increasing.
In face-to-face interviews held in October and November, Sutton residents said that tackling crime and antisocial behaviour, supporting elderly and vulnerable residents and regenerating run down areas are the most important things the council should invest in.
The top three issues that need improving in their local area are activities for teenagers, congestion and crime.
Cllr Sean Brennan, Leader of Sutton Council, said:
"We are pleased at these positive results but not complacent. Now more than ever we need to make sure that what the council does is focussed on the needs and priorities of our residents.
"As Liberal Democrats we are committed to working with our residents to ensure we meet those priorities - using our local committees, consultations and surveys like this to judge how we are doing and what really matters to people in Sutton.
"These results are very encouraging and show that we are doing many things right. People in Sutton quite rightly expect quality services at a cost they can afford and while these results show that we are moving in the right direction, we can and will improve
Resident satisfaction with schools, recycling, street cleaning and parks have increased from 2007. The proportion of people concerned about litter, graffiti and vandalism have all fallen over the same period.
The number of residents who are composting has almost doubled from 26% in 2007 to 49% this year. There were also big increases in the numbers of people recycling paper, card, glass and plastics.
